Berta brings with her more than 22 years of experience as in-house counsel and in the private practice of law.

She graduated from her second full law school at the University of British Columbia in 2004 and was called to the Bar in 2005.

In Canada Berta has had a wide and enriching exposure to the practice of law mainly as a solicitor and with emphasis in estate and disability planning, corporate and business law. She has also served as the executive director and director of the legal clinic for a leading BC organization focused in helping seniors. Her varied experience has equipped her with a broad understating of the law and the ability to quickly identify legal issues and to find practical yet comprehensive solutions. Her international experience has been mainly focused in the aviation, mining and the not-for-profit sectors.

Professional Activities

Throughout her career in Canada Berta has been involved in multiple public events where she has helped people to understand legal issues in plain language, such as estate planning, amongst others.  She is a member of the Canadian Bar Association.

Community

Service has been a lifelong commitment and a vocation for Berta. She has volunteered her time to many different causes since her early teens and as a professional, she has always incorporated pro bono work in her practice.

In Canada Berta has served as a volunteer on the board of directors of not-for-profit organizations such as the Rotary Club and AMSSA, amongst others, and has served as a volunteer at an Elder Law Legal Clinic in the Lower Mainland.  

Internationally, Berta has been part of a team building houses in Mexico and also created and developed a microcredit program for internally displaced people in her native Colombia.
